Tradescantia baby bunny bellies

from 4.00

Tradescantia chrysophylla ‘baby bunny bellies’, also known as Wandering Dew, Speedy Jenny or Spiderwort, is a very easy to grow and care for plant, which looks amazing in a hanging basket, either attached to the roof or trailing down a bookshelf. The top of the leaves are green while the undersides are purple with a fluffy texture, giving any room a great colour pop!

As Tradescantia have spreading tendencies it is best to keep this plant in a pot by itself in an indoor location. It thrives in warm and moist conditions but is also very hardy in darker and drier positions too.

Tradescantia can grow up at 1.5 meters long, creating a lovely ‘veil’, the leaves themselves are about 6cm long and 2cm wide. To encourage bushier growth you can prune the ends.

Tradescantia baby bunny bellies is native to Brazil and likes warm and moist growing conditions, but is also very hardy and will survive darker and drier positions. In Wellington we use it indoors as a hanging display plant. It can grow up to 1.5 meters long, but you can keep it pruned at any length you desire. A wider pot will mean a wider plant as it has spreading tendencies.

Please note that any trimmings of this plant, or if you choose to dispose of it, should be done at the green waste part of the landfill or in the rubbish. As this is a tradescantia that can survive outdoors err on the safe side and ensure it will never grow there!

As you can see from the pictures, these are in slightly smaller pots, with slightly fewer shoots, so the price is lower to reflect that. Please note that cuttings are wrapped in wet newspaper, with no roots, in a small amount of soil. If you are not confident at striking cuttings you should purchase the adult plant. You will receive one 10cm cutting that needs to be put 4cm deep into wet soil as soon as possible.
