Variegated apple mint (Mentha suaveolens) is a gorgeous variety of mint that is both attractive and less vigorous than its less variegated counterparts. The new growth is pure white, then the centre of the leaves darkens into green, leaving a white rim around the edges.

It grows anywhere between 20-30cm in height depending on placement and is not a fast spreader like regular mint, nor does it seem to pick up rust as easily. Plant it anywhere from part shade to full sun, and enjoy it as a less sharp mint taste in place of regular mint. I love it as a groundcover in damp areas, and enjoy the subtle white/pink flowers in late Summer/early Autumn.

You may have picked up from the picture that the leaves are fuzzy! This doesn’t bother me when I’m eating it- I find regular mint to also be a bit fuzzy- but know it can put some people off.
