<image:caption>We don’t use pesticides, fungicides, or anything that is likely to poison plants, bugs or animals. If you have an insect problem, we deal with it at the source directly, removing places they may like to hide, altering garden beds and sustaining plants in a way that helps them resist disease and the odd nibble from a snail. We control fungal issues with careful planting and hygienic garden management techniques. We know a lot about mouse, stoat, ferret and rat control, and can advise on the best traps, but we don’t maintain currently offer trap maintenance as a part of our service. We pull weeds the proper way, removing all of them at their root, deadheading flowers so nothing spreads, and working long and hard at controlling convolvulous, agapanthus, wandering dew and similar. Regular, mindful weeding is better than any spray, any day- both for the look of your garden, the control of the weed, and the environment. We don’t compromise.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Want a lemon tree? We all do! I can make it work. I can make it fruit, even! Natives, for New Zealand’s sake, and edibles, for your tummy’s sake, are high priorities. We know our way around companion planting and have some fun tricks for you to get the most from your garden. We also share seeds and plants between properties. Keen gardeners know that it’s easy to suddenly have too many marigolds that will otherwise end up on the compost heap! We give your marigolds to the neighbourhood, and swap you for borage…or apples…or whatever else is floating around as you need it.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Autumn - Karaka</image:title>
<image:caption>Corynocarpus laevigatus Karaka trees reach 15m in height and spread rapidly, which is a pity for smaller gardens, as they take so much maintenance to keep under control. Most of us would tell you never to plant one, especially in Wellington, so perhaps this is a plant to learn to love if it is already in your neighbourhood. The flowers are tiny clusters of blooms, so you hardly notice them in Summer, but in Autumn the smell of the berries fill the air with a dense, fruity weight. Wood pigeons will travel for Karaka berries, and trees are weighed down. The berries are large, clustered, and heavy, drawing the eye with rich yellow-orange hues. The leaves offset the orange beautifully, enormous and dark green. At any time of year, this is such a beautiful tree. In Autumn the scent and berries steal the show.</image:caption>

Pratia angulata now Lobelia angulata Lobelia is a juicy wee groundcover with serrated leaves that will often sit underneath other plants and only become noticeable when masses of white flowers appear. This in itself is beautiful, but the flowers are then overtaken by large purple berries en masse. The purple and white colouring will often overlap significantly, brightening up the ground level of plantings.</image:caption>

It can also be pruned into any size and shape, making it an absolute treasure in the garden. I know I say this a lot, but Putaputaweta is my favourite tree. The branches sit horizontal to the ground and set a beautiful shadow. For a purple-green plant, it tends to steal the show.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Summer - Konini</image:title>
<image:caption>Fuchsia procumbens Konini is a ground hugging, damp loving, fuschia. It covers the ground well with bright green leaves, which brighten up the space. The flowers are overhwelming in their variety of colour, from bright yellow, to orange, to purple, and they make way for large globulous pink berries after pollination. When planted on a slope, you see all of the colour in its glory. While summer is a time for many different types of flowers, I have to say that spending time with a creeping fuschia is one of the most rewarding.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Summer - Pōhutukawa</image:title>
<image:caption>Metrosideros Excelsa Pōhutukawa is an enormous tree in the rata family, and probably the best known. Aside from the obvious- enormous red flower clusters often changing the colour of the entire tree, then littering the ground for a long time after- it is a beautiful lanscape plant as the leaves under the flowers are often significantly darker than the rest, whereas new leaves are light green to tan. This means that the Pōhutukawa is three different colours over the year- deep green in late Autumn-Winter, red in Summer, or light green before and after flowering. What's more, the rata family is enormous, and includes climbers as well as small shrubs, so it is easily included in landscaping on a sunny site.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Summer - Māhoe</image:title>
<image:caption>Hinahina, Whiteywood, Melicytus Ramiflorus Māhoe is everywhere in Wellington, and you'd be forgiven for thinking it is a weed. Trees shoot up quickly and everywhere they can grab a hold. The white trunks shoot out of stumps, the leaves are your typical green, your typical shape, your typical size. If you were to ask someone to draw a tree, they would draw a Māhoe. However, walk in a forest, and your eye will rest immediately on one, with the ghostly, patchy boughs underneath and leaves mostly only on the tips of the plant. For this reason alone, it's a great idea to hang onto one in your garden! But if you need a second, take a look at those berries. This tree is in the violet family. Its flowers and berries sit under the leaves, making them hard to spot from the outside. Get under the canopy or trim your tree carefully and the fluorescent violet will delight you. It will also delight all of the birds... which is why you see them everywhere! I am passionate about this tree. It is just beautiful, if you take the time to look. Look at those berries and realise its worth. Something so common is so beautiful.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Summer - Turutu</image:title>
<image:caption>NZ Blueberry, Dianella Nigra Dianella nigra is initially a huge disappointment. Tiny, thin, black flowers with a splash of yellow emerge on a flower spike in Spring. They take a bit of persuasion to keep! Then summer comes, and the flowers are replaced by beautiful, huge blue berries which can last for months. The leaves are tall, sleek, and vary from dark to light throughout the plant. Because the plant can reach 70cm high, they are an architectural delight, and provide pops of colour in darker spots of the garden.</image:caption>

The softness of the new shoots, a pink-ish, green-ish, pale brown, show a real complexity of texture and colour which follows right down the trunk to the ground. A side note, kowhai often lose all of their leaves to fuzzy caterpillars in Summer and Autumn (Uresiphita polygonalis maorialis, find out more here). This doesn’t appear to stress the tree and the leaves grow back fairly quickly; please consider letting nature take its course and encouraging our native moths by letting this happen <3</image:caption>

<image:caption>Rainwater tanks have been impacted by the usual Covid shortages. At the time of writing, we are able to get quality black or green 200L tanks for $230, and recycled blue tanks for $180. Please check in about what is available and the cost when enquiring. Install a 200L tank: $100 + cost of tank Install a tank you already own: charged hourly [HOW MUCH IS THIS? $70?] Tank delivery without setup: cover our costs [WHAT ARE YOUR COSTS?] This includes delivery; securing the tank to the ground, a wall or fence; and attaching the tank to a downpipe so that it will be filled by rainfall from the roof (if desired). These tanks can be installed so they can be moved easily (if renting or renovating). They can also be installed so that they are not able to be easily removed (if there are security concerns).</image:caption>

We have built a little offshoot to the business, where we support gardeners into gardening work and do all of the billing and admin for you.</image:caption>

We are confident charging $60hr for your work. And we want you to have that money.) -Connect you with people making gardening enquiries (who we also screen, and often meet first), and sending you off to meet them to make sure you are a good match; -Help you set a task list for the property, and provide ongoing support if needed; -Invoice the client on your behalf, take an admin fee for our time, and deposit the money into your bank account.</image:caption>
